The Open Arms team is incredibly excited to be bringing our 2024 event to Calgary for the first time. Join us for an evening of community, live music, guest speakers, and a silent auction!
This year we are focused on continuing to support the Haven Language program’s momentum in providing accessible, impactful English lessons to Canadian refugees.

About Us
Founded in 2021, Open Arms is a Canadian organization dedicated to helping people fleeing conflict around the world transition to a new life in Canada. We've raised over $200,000 to support people who are impacted by global conflict to access the necessary resources and community required to start their new lives .
We proudly supported Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban takeover in 2021, Ukrainian students fleeing the war in 2022, and in 2023 expanded our impact by partnering with Haven to found the Haven Language Program.
About Haven
Created in October 2022, Haven is a registered Canadian charity that is making it easier for Canadians to help refugees resettling in our country. By engaging more Canadians companies and organizations, we want to massively improve how Canada resettles people fleeing conflict.
Team
Open Arms is a group of young professionals passionate about making a difference in the lives of refugees coming to Canada. Our team is comprised of Mary Peplinski, Emily Newton, Hunter Knifton, Elise Weissenberger, Jack Peplinski, and Olivia Newton.
In 2021, following the Afghan takeover by the Taliban, Mary, Hunter, and Emily came together to create the first Open Arms event in Toronto out of the desire to take action and to find ways to improve the circumstances of those displaced by the tragedy.
Since then, Open Arms has become an annual event to bring together our community in dedication to finding ways to create positive changes in the lives of those displaced by global conflict, through partnership with Canadian charities that align with our mission.
